Summer Wrap Up

It’s been a long eventful Summer and I wanted to take a moment to look back.

HELPING FRIENDS IN HAITI
I started the Summer with a special project. I made some clothespin puppets for
an orphanage in Haiti. They used the puppets to help them express their feelings.
Here is a photo of me on the “assembly line.” And here is a photo of the kids using them.

COMPLETE MY FIRST YEAR 4-H

I finished my first year of 4-H.  It was baskets of wool and fun. I took care of the sheep at Devils Bliss Farm. The sheep were a little jumpy at first, but they really grew to like me and my friends. Actually, the best part of being at 4-H is just hanging out and relaxing out in the countryside.

4-H ends the year at the Loudoun County Fair. At the fair I saw all the sheep we raised in true fair attire, as well as some of the other club’s livestock.  I didn’t show my sheep this year since I was new at this. But I did get to ride some fun rides, watch a rodeo, and just had a good time.

WISDOM SPACES

I continued my weekly visits to Wisdom Spaces. But one visit was very special because my Nanny (Aunt Andrea) came with me.  She is afraid of horses. But, me and Ms. Carla showed her how to go past your comfort zone. Because on the other side of our comfort zone you will find your greatness. She learned a lot about horses and I’m learning a lot about myself.

COMICON
Another exciting event for me this summer was attending our first All Star Comicon with
my sister. It was so cool seeing all the cosplayers, meeting actors and artists of all kinds and buying surprisingly cheap fan stuff. It was so much fun and I hope I can go back next year.

TYPICAL SUMMER FUN

I did have some time for the typical summertime events too. Like going to the beach and lots of family time.

This year our beach trip was to Virginia Beach…. we did mostly swimming

We had lots of family time which included a family dinner for my sister’s 18th birthday at Sukara.  We like that place because they cook authentic Japanese food right in front of you.

ARTWORKS IS BOOMING

I wasn’t all just fun and games. I managed to get alot of sewing done and it paid off
with lots of orders coming in for more.

I am making Pocket Pillows which can store all your phones, books and other items. I also made pencil holder bookmarks, perfect for journaling and back to school.

I like sewing because it really feels good to get into the zone and just let your worries go away. If you want to order just email me.  artworksallie@gmail.com

A NEW VOLUNTEER PROJECT

Another work-related project that came up during the Summer was a visit to Legacy Farms.  It is a program that employs adults with disabilities.  They work on the farm
growing crops that are sold to local restaurants and businesses. I am working on a video about the program so you learn more about their great work.

SUMMER ENDS

The last day of summer we spent time in a different type garden at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. All of the displays were made completely from Legos. It was impressive.

WHEW.  This summer was a total blast! I did so much fun stuff this year.
Now it’s back to schoolwork. The Summer Wrap was my first writing assignment.

In my next blog writing assignment,  I tell you about my recent field trip.

See you after class!
